Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the long days, but the longer days come with intense heat. It is incredibly important to keep your active working dogs healthy and hydrated during the hotter months.

Water is the ultimate way to ensure your dog stays hydrated; however, dogs do not always drink enough water. Sportsman’s Pride Allen Vincent provided a tip to ensure your active dogs drink enough water during the β€˜dog days of summer.’

Professional Dog Trainer Allen Vincent suggests using milk replacer to flavor the water and make it more appealing. The tip is simple, add a scoop of milk replacement powder to your dog’s water bowl and mix it with water. In his experience, he says the dog will drink the whole bowl full, so you do not have to worry if your dog is drinking enough water or not.

In addition, if you are traveling and do not have the powder available, you can mix a little bit of regular milk from the store in the water instead of mixing the milk replacement powder.

This tip from a pro ensures your active dog will drink enough water during the hottest months.
